Fascial Manipulation

Fascial Manipulation FM Sacramento

Fascial Manipulation (FM) focuses on the fascia and considers that the myofascial system is a three-dimensional continuum. This method offers a complete biomechanical model that assists in deciphering the role of fascia in musculoskeletal disorders. The fascia in the body is very extensive and so it would be difficult and inappropriate to work over the entire body. Instead, the FM method focuses on the localization and treatment of precise points along fascial plane lines that allow FM to achieve the results that it has become known for.

Based on an understanding of fascial anatomy, an accurate analysis of the myofascial connections can provide indications as to where it is best to intervene in treatment. The FM method often allows our doctors to work at a distance from the actual site of pain, which is often inflamed due to non-physiological tension.

The Fascial Manipulation method looks at how the body moves in planes of motion. So in order for one muscle to contract, there has to be a series of proper movements from multiple coordinating groups in order for proper movement to occur. The fascia coordinates these movements and therefore any binding of these planes of movement will cause distortion/dysfunction to another region of the body. Hence a specific site of pain in your body may be caused by a distortion occurring down the plane of motion along the corresponding fascial line. Without addressing the entire plane of motion, one usually cannot resolve a specific site of injury completely or successfully.
